The Grove was, by far, our largest full-gut renovation to date—and one of our most exciting projects. With nearly 2,400 square feet, five bedrooms, and four bathrooms, this home offered endless possibilities for transformation.
The property earned its name from a unique bonus that came with our purchase: an adjacent parcel of vacant land—later home to The Winker—that boasted mature citrus trees, including grapefruits, lemons, oranges, and tangerines. In short, we had acquired our very own citrus grove.
We took The Grove down to the studs, removing non-structural interior walls to create a bright, open living room and kitchen. An unpermitted attached sunroom at the rear of the house was also removed, allowing us to reimagine the space with proper flow and functionality.
Major system upgrades formed the foundation of this renovation. We replaced the roof and decking, installed a new electrical panel with all-new wiring, outlets, and switches, and added a new HVAC system for the main home with brand-new ductwork. The efficiency apartment received its own mini-split unit, and we installed new BAT insulation throughout. All plumbing—including water and sewer lines—was replaced to remove outdated cast iron and galvanized pipes, and a new water heater was added. Every window was upgraded to energy-efficient vinyl, all interior doors were replaced, and a brand-new garage door was installed.
With the structure sound, we turned our attention to the finishes. The main home now features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, including two master suites, while the separate efficiency apartment offers a one-bedroom, one-bath layout. Both spaces received fresh interior and exterior paint, recessed lighting in every room, ceiling fans in all living areas and bedrooms, modern Decora-style switches and outlets, and durable LVP flooring.
The kitchens in both the main home and the efficiency apartment were outfitted with new cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, matte black hardware, and a stylish glass tile backsplash. All bathrooms were fully remodeled with rain shower heads and sprayers, new vanities, updated toilets, and beautiful tile in every shower.
The Grove stands as a showcase of what’s possible when thoughtful design meets full-scale renovation—blending modern comfort with lasting quality.
